USDA reporta un incremento de 6.5 millones de toneladas en la producción mundial de maíz para alcanzar los 1,108.6 millones de toneladas y un incremento de 4.6 millones de toneladas en los inventarios finales para ubicarse en 300.6 millones de toneladas.
De los 5 principales países productores de maíz sólo China aumentó la estimación de producción en 6.8 millones de toneladas para alcanzar las 260.8 millones de toneladas de maíz.
EUA mantiene el liderazgo mundial en este grano con 347 millones de toneladas (el 31.3% de la producción mundial), seguido por China con 260.8 mdt (23.5%), Brasil 101 mdt (9.1%), Argentina 50 mdt (4.5%) y México el país de origen del maíz con 25 millones de toneladas, que representan sólo el 2.3% de la oferta mundial.
El incremento en la producción provocó que los futuros de maíz a diciembre de 2019 bajaran un dólar para ubicarse en 143 dólares, lo que representa un precio de $3,539 por tonelada.
Sin embargo, la perspectiva a mediano plazo es positiva, ya que los futuros de maíz a julio 2020 subieron 0.8 dólares, para alcanzar los 152.8 dólares.
En lo que respecta a otros granos, el sorgo se ubica en $3,289 y el trigo a julio 2020 subió 0.4 dólares para ubicarse en 194.7 dólares ($4,551).
